ImageSydney Quilt Show 2008

iQuilt is proud to sponsor the Sydney Quilt Show 2008.

Sydney Quilt Show 2008 has now been and gone. iQuilt was there on the Wednesday morning for the presentation of awards to winners, runners up and highly commended works. Just as importantly, we were there to look at the 500 quilts showcasing the wealth of talent that is apparent in those who are so young, just starting their love affair with fabric and thread, and those with decades of experience.

For Merelyn Pearce and her quilt Wheelflower Medallion, it was her third win. Wheelflower Medallion took three and a half years to make and Merelyn's gracious acceptance speech acknowledged that while not everyone receives a prize, all entrants are winners. Merelyn's biggest fan is possibly her proud and supportive husband who described Merelyn's quilt to us as a work of art -  we couldn't agree more. We'll bring you an interview with Merelyn in a later issue and we're looking forward to sharing the passion and joy that Merelyn radiates, particularly in relation to her patchwork and quilting.

The winner of the iQuilt sponsored prize for 2nd place, traditional quilt (professional) went to Pam Hill for her beautiful quilt Under Southern Skies. Congratulations Pam and we look forward to sharing more of Pam's work with you in a future issue.

We're also pleased to share with you the entry by Maxine O'Toole of Galston NSW and a longstanding member of Arcadian Quilters. Maxine's Medieval Quilt is for one of her grandchildren, Joel, and we'll be showcasing some of Maxine's works as the first of our follow up features from the Sydney Quilt Show in i9.

Last, but certainly not least important, it was just terrific to meet up with so many of you and we hope you enjoy your fat quarter gifts from us to you as the heart and soul of iQuilt.

The winners, runners up and commended works are listed on the Guild's website. We congratulate all entrants in this amazing show.
